Records management and collecting policies
The City of Victoria Archives and Records Division is the official repository for all inactive civic records of permanent value to the City of Victoria. Private or non-governmental records which document the history and development of the city are also retained by the Archives. The private records relate to business, organizations and individuals of Greater Victoria and include several large fonds such as the Commonwealth Games fonds and the W & J Wilson fonds. The Archives also possesses an extensive photographic and map collection, a large set of city directories, genealogical information sources and a small reference library. The Archives also administers the Records Management program of the City of Victoria.

Finding aids, guides and publications
Website provides information on the variety of functions and activities of the archives and on the many programs and services it offers. Includes general descriptions of archival holdings and user guides to common areas of research carried out at the archives. Features include online access to descriptions of or indexes for city government records, private records, private documents, maps and plans, and photographs. An important feature for genealogists is an online Vital Statistics Search, which allows users to search Ross Bay Cemetery records (1872-1980), Death Notices Index (1901-1939), and the Marriage Notices Index (1901-1939). The Victoria Vignettes section, which provided online access to videos focusing on different aspects of Victoria's heritage, is not available as of February 2012.
