Biographical history
The Church of the Advent parish dates from 1987. Prior to that, a mission at Colwood, in conjunction with a mission at Metchosin, was operating from Christ Church Cathedral by 1868. A resident priest served Metchosin, Sooke and Colwood in 1891, then the districts were affiliated with St. Paul's Esquimalt from 1906 until 1911, when it was amalgamated with Metchosin, Highlands and Sooke. In 1913, Colwood joined with Langford and the Highlands in a separate parish. The foundation of the Church of St. John, Colwood was laid in 1912. The building was dedicated on October 26, 1913 and consecrated on March 31, 1915. The parishes of St. John, Colwood, and St. Matthew, Langford, were paired until 1978, when a merger was approved. The Church of St. Matthew was deconsecrated and sold by 1982. Subsequently the united parish built a new church, named the Church of the Advent, which was consecrated in 1987. St. John's was deconsecrated October 20, 1996 and the heritage church building was handed over to the City of Colwood. The Church of the Advent is located at 510 Mount View Ave, Colwood.

Fonds consists of parish registers, vestry and parish council records(1929-1986), building committee records, correspondence, financial records, membership lists, women's organization records, historical notes, property records and plans, architectural records and plans, photographs, and related documentation and correspondence. Parish registers include: baptisms (1915-1997), confirmations (1963-1985), marriages (1919-1996), and burial registers (1915-1986).
