Biographical history
The British Columbia Psychiatric Association (BCPA) was first established in 1962 as the Section of Psychiatry of the British Columbia Medical Association. Its main function was to deal with economic concerns, such as revisions to the Relative Value Fee Guide, affecting psychiatrists in British Columbia. In 1992, after members expressed a desire to broaden that mandate to include education and social functions, the Section of Psychiatry was incorporated as the British Columbia Psychiatric Association. The BCPA's main functions are to advance the scientific, educational, professional and economic welfare of psychiatrists in British Columbia and to promote the highest quality psychiatric care for British Columbians.
