Biographical history

A Section of Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat of the BCMA was established in 1938, and became known as the British Columbia Oto-Ophthalmological Society. Initially a scientific section, its mandate included economic matters after 1949. Its purposes included elevating the professional status of practitioners in the fields of ophthalmology, otology, rhinology and laryngology in addition to advising the BCMA on the medical, political and economic matters related to those fields. The society disbanded in 1979 when the sections divided into the Section of Ophthalmology and Section of Otolaryngology and formed new societies.
