Biographical history
The Joseph Bradshaw family built the Bradshaw house in Nelson in 1900. Joseph Bradshaw was a CPR conductor who had married Mary Elizabeth Winship. One of their sons, Chester Bradshaw, was born in Nelson in 1901 and graduated from the North Pacific College of Oregon with the degree of DMD in Dentistry in 1927. He practiced dentistry in Nelson and served as alderman for the City of Nelson, as member of the Nelson School Board and Nelson Library Board, and on numerous civic commissions and committees as well as with a variety of community associations and groups. In 1934, he had married Rose Jeffries, a native daughter of Nelson, and with her had three children, David, Lois and Leigh. Rose's father and mother, Albert and Annie Jeffries were originally from Oxford, England, but were married in Revelstoke in 1895. Albert Jeffries became a CPR brakeman working out of Nelson. Their son, Fred, was killed in action during World War I. Rose Jeffries (later Bradshaw) was active in community affairs, serving on Nelson City Council and the Nelson School Board, and actively researched and wrote on the history of the Nelson area. After the death of her husband, Chester, she later married and took the name Rose Pask.
