  <bioghist encodinganalog="3.2.2"><p>Bert Leaning was born in 1895, died in 1955, buried in the Lytton Highway cemetery. He was a surveyor for the CPR railway from 1909 until he joined the armed forces [ca. 1918]. After the war, he worked for the Dept. of Highways and became general foreman for the Public Works Maintenance crew in Boston Bar, B.C.[ca 1940&#039;s]. Bert owned property and built a house in Lytton, at the end of Kent road. He sold this and bought property on George Road and built a house there [ca 1950s].</p></bioghist>  <scopecontent encodinganalog="3.3.1"><p>Fonds consists of 5 albums. Includes photographs of many of the job sites that Bert surveyed for the railway, 1910 and 1911. Also includes photographs of self and friend, J.B. Brown, another surveyor; surveyor crews, Lytton old-timers, and World War I veterans.</p></scopecontent>  <controlaccess>
