      <biogHist><p>Hugh Beattie was an engineer who served in World War I with the Canadian Cavalry Brigade and also with the Irish Fusiliers from 1940-1946. His employment included Abbotsford Lumber &amp; Mining Development Co. 1924-1925 and janitorial work for the North vancouver School Board from 1938 until his retirement in 1952. Hugh Beattie's son James joined the RCAF in World War II. His plane was shot down and he was reported missing. But he survived to spend the rest of the war in a POW camp, returning home safely.</p></biogHist>
