Rev. J.A.S. Bastin was a Church of England Circuit Missionary in the Nicola-Thompson River region in 1895-1901. He was sent out by the SPG (Society for the Propagation of the Gospel) as a Deacon to the native people. He was ordained a Priest by the Bishop Dart of New Westminster at Lytton in 1896 and was under the supervision of Archdeacon Richard Small. He was present at the consecration of the Church of All Saints in Shulus, and he was also at the side of Emily Crease (a very respected and well-loved citizen of Lytton) when she died after a tragic accident.
