History

Norman Barrass was born in Nanaimo in 1914. He was a dishwasher and later, relief chef at the Malaspina Hotel from 1933 to 1942. During the war, he was a cook at the Nanaimo Military Camp. In 1952, Barrass started work at Harmac and continued there for 27 years. He was also an avid amateur photographer and had a keen interest in local history.
