Biographical history
Anna and Alfred Joyce took a preemption on their land at Cape Mudge on Quadra Island (then known as Valdez Island) in 1892 and lived on that property the rest of their lives. Anna Joyce founded the Quadra Island Women's Institute and she and her husband were active in community affairs.

The fonds consists of correspondence, cards, receipts, tax assessments, memoirs and scrapbooks of Anna Joyce and of various members of the Alfred Joyce family of Quadra Island. Some of the records relate to construction work done by Alfred Joyce in various locations on northern Vancouver Island. Fonds also includes photocopies of original notes made by Anna Joyce relating to the family gardens (ca. 1910-1940). Fonds includes records of Anna Joyce's involvement with the Quadra Island Women's Institute.
