He moved to Oliver in 1961, where he worked for the fisheries department, patrolling the waterways from Osoyoos to McIntyre Bluff. For many years, he worked for CP Rail (1918-1961) at various points in the Kootenays and Southern Interior, including being a field agent in Oliver until the closing of the CPR station. Bill lived in Osoyoos during the mid-1940’s and became the first station-master and telegrapher in 1945 and chairman of the newly incorporated village of Osoyoos in 1946. He was a member of the Royal Canadian legion, the Masonic Lodge, and Air Cadets. He was survived by his wife Erna and son Robert.
